About Preserve Lewisboro

Preserve Lewisboro is a resident-led community effort promoting responsible land-use planning, environmental stewardship, and informed public participation in decisions that affect Lewisboro. The organization was created in response to the proposed subdivision of the Reynolds property at 831 Route 35 in Cross River. That proposal remains our immediate focus, but the principles underlying our work apply more broadly: development should be carefully planned, environmental resources should be protected, and residents should have access to the information they need to participate meaningfully in decisions affecting their community.

Our Current Focus

The approximately 15-acre Reynolds property is the subject of an application for a 14-lot residential subdivision. Because of the property’s size, location, natural features, proximity to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, and importance to the surrounding community, we believe the proposal deserves careful, independent, and transparent review. Preserve Lewisboro helps residents understand the proposal, follow the review process, examine public documents, and participate constructively as the application moves forward.

Our Broader Mission

Over time, Preserve Lewisboro seeks to support thoughtful consideration of land-use and development issues throughout the town. We believe Lewisboro can accommodate responsible growth while protecting the qualities that make it a distinctive and desirable place to live. That requires decisions based on the characteristics of each property, sound environmental and technical information, long-term planning, and meaningful community involvement. Our purpose is not to oppose development generally. It is to encourage development that is appropriately located, responsibly designed, environmentally sound, and consistent with the town’s long-term interests.

What We Believe

Land-use decisions should reflect the conditions and limitations of the particular property under review, as well as the potential effects on neighboring residents, public resources, natural systems, and the wider community.Among the issues that may require careful consideration are wetlands and watercourses, groundwater, drainage, traffic and emergency access, tree removal, wildlife habitat, open space, neighborhood character, and proximity to protected lands.We support a review process that is factual, transparent, thorough, and open to meaningful public participation.

Who We Are

Preserve Lewisboro is maintained by local residents who care about the future of the Reynolds property and the responsible stewardship of Lewisboro’s natural resources, open spaces, neighborhoods, and community character. We welcome participation from residents who wish to attend meetings, review documents, share relevant information, raise questions, or otherwise support responsible planning.
